VOLUNTEERS WELCOME!
Spartan Chassis knows that those who own and drive our chassis are the best people to promote chapter membership, and promote our products and services. We encourage members to volunteer their time at Spartan Chassis displays during rallies around the U.S. On-site training and shirts provided to all volunteers.

Message from the President
The summer rallies of SCIC began with Service Week in Charlotte, Michigan. Most of you know that Spartan Motors has suffered along with the RV industry. As a result, Homecoming was cancelled and “Service Week,” specifically for SCIC members was held. Sixty-five coaches attended Service Week and everyone had a chance to thank Spartan for their strong commitment to SCIC. Scott & Wanda Brady lined up a Pre/Post Rally for Service Week. Thirty coaches attended both segments at Hearthside RV Resort in Petosky, Michigan. This was an excellent rally and one of the highlights had to be lunch at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
The FMCA Summer Convention was held in Bowling Green, Ohio. Eighty-eight members attended this year’s Luncheon/Meeting. Election of officers was the main item of business this year and following are the results: Jerry Frank, president; Chuck Ringer, vice president; Judy Yockey, re-elected treasurer; Janette Ringer, secretary; Scott Brady, national director; and Nancy Anton, reelected alternate national director. Lynn Neri was appointed to take over the position of director of membership—a position previously held by Dick Harris.
National Director's Report
The Governing Board (GB) of FMCA held its annual meeting on July 20, 2009 as part of the FMCA International Convention at Bowling Green, OH. At this meeting, the GB voted on a budget for 2010 and elected new National Officers for the next two years, as well as other actions described below.
Treasurer Doug Key gave his report, which included the current financial status of FMCA and the proposed budget for 2010. With FMCA’s reserve funds dropping (due to an estimated $4 million in operating losses for the four years ending in 2009, as well as stock market losses), many changes were proposed for the new budget. The budget reflected changes that had already happened, such as the substantial drop in magazine advertising revenue, significant reductions in staff and payroll expenses at the Cincinnati National Office, and sizable cutbacks in Executive Board travel expenses. In addition, reductions in GB meeting expense reimbursement for National Directors, elimination of the Medex program which would have cost about $500,000 in 2010, increased fees charged for mail forwarding and other changes were proposed. The resulting budget reflected an operating loss of about $300,000 which would have been funded from FMCA’s reserve funds. There was no proposed dues increase.
After much discussion, the GB voted to reinstate funding for Medex for 2010 and to not change the GB travel reimbursement for National Directors. This resulted in a projected deficit for 2010 of approximately $800,000, which will be funded out of reserve funds. Later in the meeting, the GB voted to submit a $5 annual dues increase to a mail ballot vote of the GB, as required by FMCA’s Policies and Procedures. Since the GB also voted to not eliminate the dues payment program where if a member paid for 4 years, the 5th year was free and because of membership attrition, the increase, if approved, will provide additional annual revenue of $300,000-$400,000.
Other actions taken by the GB included many wording changes to FMCA’s By-Laws and Policies and Procedures, as well as voting down a proposal to submit all GB elections to a mail ballot as opposed to Convention voting as done now and to confirm the Life Membership Award to Max and Joanne Durbin approved by the Executive Board. As noted in FMC Magazine, Max died last spring after many years of service to FMCA. Convention sites were also approved:
2010: Winter - Albuquerque, NM / Summer - Redmond, OR
2011: Winter - Perry, GA / Summer Madison, WI
2012: Winter - Pomona, CA / Summer Indianapolis, IN
Finally, the election of the National Officers was held. Elected were:
President: Charlie Schrenkel (Past Area VP for SE Area)
Senior VP: Judy Czarsty (Past Area VP for Eastern Area)
Secretary: Joanne Durbin (Re-elected)
Treasurer: Wil Young
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. I also represented SCIC at the INTO Area Meeting later in the week at which SCIC was awarded 1st place in the 2008 Chapter Newsletter Contest Manufacturer’s Division.
Respectfully Submitted;
Bernie Dobrin, National Director

Comment by Judith A. Yockey:
Deposited every check received for $149.00 (most were in my name) 2009 SCIC Post Rally – Maumee Bay State Park. I have a detailed record for the bookkeeping part of my job. I was allowed $2,000.00 to be used, as necessary for Post Rally, from the treasury (See minutes from Carol Hefta, SCIC Secretary). We were under budget regarding costs for this Post Rally. Seven (7) couples cancelled due to health, and I refunded $149.00 checks to each, for a total of $1,043.00 (All transaction are with Judith A. Yockey, SCIC Treasurer - for Audit Committee review).

Message From President (continued)
Each year at the National Conventions, Spartan Chassis allows us to have a tent at their commercial booth. This year, I would like to thank the following members for giving of their time and effort for the purpose of obtaining new members: Carl & Sue Seale, Frank & Lynn Neri, Bob & Joan Nisbet, Dave & Bev Simons, Ed & Marilyn O’Shea, Larry & Judy Faller, Herb & Bev Weinman, and Paul & Louella Rose.
The Post Rally hosted by Al & Judy Yockey and Randy & Karen Stano celebrating the 20th anniversary of SCIC attracted thirty-seven coaches. The Yockeys and Stanos chose to have the rally at Maumee Bay State Park near Toledo, Ohio. This was an excellent site and highlights of the rally were excellent food, including a lunch at Tony Packo’s made famous by Jamie Farr of M. A. S. H (Cpl. Maxwell 'Max' Q. Klinger) TV fame, and good socializing with friends both new and old. Our hosts provided entertainment at Tony Packo’s as well as the last evening in camp. The Stanos and Yockeys need to be commended on an excellent rally. Thank you!
FMCA added a new category of judging chapter newsletters this year. In the past, clubs like SCIC have not qualified because they felt we represented large commercial interests and that our newsletters were professionally produced; as a result clubs like CAT, Freightliner and others were excluded from the competition. In Perry, our Club Secretary met with contest officials and gave them a collection of our past years newsletters. Gordon Taylor received a certificate indicating the SCIC Chapter of FMCA was the 1st place winner of the best Newsletter in the Manufacturer’s Division.
As your past president, I would like to take this moment to the past officers who served with me: Paul Rose, vice president; Judy Yockey, treasurer; Bernie Dobrin, national director; Nancy Anton, alternate national director; and especially my wife Carol as secretary. I especially need to thank the people at Spartan, who without their efforts we would not have a Club as special and unique as we have. First, we need to recognize Scott & Wanda Brady—a meeting or luncheon, and especially a rally without their involvement would fall flat on its face. Second, I want to thank Gordon Taylor, Paul Krug, Mike O’Neil and my two special assistants, Karen Hildebrant and Heather McConnell. Without each one of you, my position of president would have been impossible to complete. I especially would like to thank the general membership for giving me a chance to serve as your president.
I would like to close my term with a song title used by Bob Hope. Thanks for the memories.
Safe Travels,
Bob & Carol Hefta
