Technicians Center: Coach Service FAQs

If you have a question not answered here, contact us or submit a webmail.

I want to become an Authorized Service Center, what are the steps I need to take to make that happen?
We can provide you with our Authorized Service Center Guide that outlines our procedures. We encourage any service center interested in working with Spartan Chassis to complete the dealer application forms at the end of the guide. Based on geographic need, we will review the application and determine if your facility is in a location where we need an authorized service center. Once Spartan determines that we are interested in having the service center become authorized, technical product training is key to completing the process. Technical training information will be provided to the prospective service center.

How is general service parts on RV's handled compared to warranty service work?
If you are working on a motorhome that is outside the warranty period, our parts department will ship you any parts needed to complete the repair at a reduced discount. Note that our authorized service centers receive an increased discount on parts.

What if there is already an Authorized Service Center in town, can I still become an authorized service center?
In many metropolitan areas across the country we have multiple authorized service centers because of the various types of services required to maintain today's vehicles. However, we are careful to analyze potential locations, as we do not want to over-saturate an area with service centers.

How do technicians become trained to work on Spartan Chassis?
Spartan Chassis offers factory training for our service center technicians to attend. Typically, we offer four at the factory and two regionally. Training covers the key components and systems of the chassis such as electrical, air systems, hydraulics and suspension. Training Events

How often is training recommended?
We require one trained technician to be recertified every three years, as long as the technician that attended training remains employed at the facility. We do encourage service centers to attend every year, and many of them do so.

How should we handle it if our trained technician leaves our employment?
Facilities must recertify at the earliest training event should a certified technician leave employment. If the trained technician leaves the service center, please contact us for the next available training opportunity.

Where are the trainings held?
The factory trainings are held in Charlotte, MI at the Spartan manufacturing facility. At the present time, in March of each year we offer a regional training in Florida.

Will my technicians receive RVIA hours of certification for attending the training?
Our certificates do meet the standards for RVIA re-certification.

If my facility performs maintenance work for a local RV dealer, can I become authorized to perform warranty work on RV chassis that they sell?
Yes, if your facility offers the expertise that is needed in your area, then you can become authorized to perform warranty work on RV chassis that they sell.

We understand that some of our selling dealers have qualified mechanics and are able to perform some of their own warranty work. We believe it is advantageous for our customers that these facilities attend training.

What type of investment in tooling is required?
We do not require an investment in tooling. We do, however, expect your facility to be equipped to perform work on the chassis components as needed. We are interested in whether the facility has the means to lift the coaches, as this is critical to some of the repairs. If the facility is not equipped to perform repairs such as alignments and transmission work, then they should work with reputable outlets to sublet these repairs.

Do I have to make an investment in parts in order to perform warranty work?
No, our facilities do not have to make investments in parts. For warranty repairs, we ship the parts without charge to the service centers. Spartan pays your posted labor rate for warranty repairs.

Does Spartan offer a parts stocking facility plan?
Yes, the parts department at Spartan Chassis offers a stocking facility plan. Criteria to add new facilities to the stocking facility plan is based on geographic need as determined by Spartan's Service Parts Department.

Is it required that my facility provides towing services?
No, it is not required for facilities to provide towing services. Many of our Service Centers work closely with credible companies that can provide sublet towing.
