Training Center: Our Trainers

We are pleased to be a recognized leader in chassis training for our Authorized Service Centers. Training is offered both at Spartan Chassis in Charlotte, MI and at other locations across the nation. Training is an important pre-requisite to a successful partnership in our program. Training for our technicians across the country has a direct impact on reduced warranty costs and customer satisfaction. We expect your technicians who attend training to have proper certifications, experience and expertise. We offer chassis specific training opportunities with our chassis system/component suppliers. Technicians receive valuable information regarding the Spartan chassis products and system components.

Mike O'Neil

Mike started his career at Spartan Chassis in the Fall of 1991. A natural mechanic and technician, Mike continued to gather technical skills working in motorhome chassis production and fire truck cab production. Mike's hard work and refined skills were rewarded when he was promoted to Quality Control on the motorhome line.

The Customer Service Department recruited Mike to assist customers as a telephone technician. In this position, he recognized the need to add chassis training to the customer service program and was a key player in the creation of the motorhome training program at Spartan Chassis.

After gaining diesel engine experience outside of Spartan, Mike returned to Spartan Chassis where he currently holds the position of Technical Trainer. He is qualified and skilled in both motorhome and fire truck vocations. He holds five ASE Medium/Heavy Duty certifications and diligently pursues his own continuing education in this fast paced marketplace.

Watch for him at the Spartan Homecoming and at Rallies across the country. If you see a long line you can bet that Mike is the cause of it, because hundreds of customers and technicians are willing to wait for hours to listen and learn from what Mike has to say.

Gary May

Gary joined Spartan Chassis in March 2004 as an ER Technician. In September 2008, Gary took on a new role as an ER Technical Trainer. He brings more than 42 years of experience to his new role, along with 20 ASE certifications, 3 of which are EVT certifications. Gary has had his ASE master truck mechanic certification, along with his ASE master school bus mechanic certification for 18 years.

Gary worked as lead mechanic for a trucking company for 9 years and then as a distributor for heavy duty parts for 7 years. He went on to become a service manager for an independent repair facility for 14 years and then for 13 years served as a territory manager and trainer for Stemco.

In his new position, Gary will focus his attention on bringing the same quality training to ER customers as his colleague, Mike O'Neil, has established in the RV segment of Spartan's business. Gary and Mike both challenge themselves to stay abreast of technological changes and provide the best technical training in the industry today.
