FAQ's: Recreational Vehicles

What is the recommended service I need to perform on my Recreational Vehicle?
It is important to point out that you are operating a vehicle of significant size and weight that requires both pre-trip and daily inspections. The Spartan Chassis owner's manual will guide you through routine chassis maintenance. We highly recommend that you read the manual thoroughly. It will help you understand your role in safe vehicle operation and basic vehicle maintenance.

When my coach is at a Service Center for warranty repairs, who do I contact at Spartan for warranty authorization?
When the coach is at a Service Center for repairs, it is the responsibility of the Service Center (not the Recreational Vehicle owner) to contact Spartan's Dealer Technicians to receive warranty repair authorization. The Dealer Specialist number at Spartan Chassis is 1-800-393-8861.

How do I find the VIN# on my chassis?
Every chassis manufactured by Spartan Chassis is assigned a unique VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) that is used as both the chassis and vehicle serial number. It is displayed on a certification label provided by the final manufacturer. Refer to the Body Manufacturer's literature to find the certification label location.

Below is a sample VIN #. Note that when calling Spartan Chassis, please refer to the last six digits when referencing your coach.

Sample VIN #: 4 V Z F P 0 2 6 3 V C 0 2 1 5 7 2

Reference Last Six Digits as VIN #: 0 2 1 5 7 2

How important is it to keep maintenance logs on my coach?
It is very important to keep maintenance logs. It is the owner's responsibility to keep accurate repair records, including receipts. Should the lack of required maintenance be the reason for repair, a warranty claim will not be accepted.

Acceptable records include itemized bills, dealer work orders, owner’s vehicle log and service facility receipts, which must state the date service was performed, mileage (kilometers), VIN # and the service performed.

Spartan Chassis recommends that maintenance and repair records be maintained in your permanent records and transferred to any subsequent vehicle owner.

Why do I always need to know the mileage of my RV?
When Spartan Chassis documents warranty repairs, mileage is required along with all the repair information.

Am I eligible for Road Side Service for towing and emergency repairs?
Once you register your coach with Spartan Chassis, your Road Side Companion will be activated. This service is provided through your limited warranty registration and provides service for the duration of the limited warranty in the event your coach becomes disabled because of any defect covered by the limited warranty.

Road Side Companion can assist you by providing the following services: towing, mobile mechanic (where available), fuel delivery, tire change, battery jump-start, lockout service and emergency fluids. If you have any questions about these services or are in need of assistance, please call 1-888-890-1741.

Where do I get information on tire inflations?
The recommended inflation pressures for your tires are indicated on the certification label or in your owner's manual. Since Recreational Vehicles can be loaded with many different configurations, the load on each tire will vary. For this reason, air pressure should be checked based on the load on each individual tire. Inflation pressure should be adjusted to handle the maximum tire load, and all tires on the axle should carry the same inflation pressure.

You should check your tires' air pressure at least once a month, before each trip and each morning you drive during a trip. Tire pressure should be checked cold, or before you have driven that day, as tire pressure ratings have been designed with typical running heat/pressure build-up in mind. Remember to check the air pressures of the inside tires in dual fitments and make sure the valves and caps are free of dirt and moisture. It may be necessary to inflate your tires at a truck stop or truck service center in order to find adequate air pressure for your coach's needs.
